Serves: Depends on donut pan
Prep time: 20 Minutes
Bake time: 12-15 Minutes
Ingredients
1 box yellow or golden cake mix
1 -1/2 teaspoons apple pie spice
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 - 1/2 cups unsweetened apple sauce
1 large apple finely chopped (I used honeycrisp)
1 container whipped buttercream
1/2 teaspoon apple pie spice
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Directions:
Chop apples into small, finely diced pieces.
In a bowl, whisk together the cake mix, apple pie spice, cinnamon, and apple sauce until well combined.
Fold the diced apples into the mixture.
Grease the donut pans (large or small) with non-stick spray and preheat the oven to 350F.
Spoon or pipe the batter into the donut pans, filling each ring evenly. Use the back of a spoon to smooth out the tops.
Bake the large donuts for 15 minutes and bake the small donuts for 12 minutes. Do not let the donuts sit in the pans after baking. Transfer immediately to a cooling rack and let them cool completely.
For the frosting, use a store bought whipped buttercream frosting. Remove the foil from the frosting container, microwave for 30 seconds, then stir until smooth. Mix in apple pie spice.
Pour the buttercream into a wide bowl. Dip the tops of each cooled donut into the frosting. Place the donuts back on the cooling rack to set.
Enjoy your apple pie spice donuts!
